I need to replace the steel frame tubes 3″X 4″ at 20′ long for my boat trailer, the boat weight at 2800 lbs, what size of aluminum channel should I use? 3″ X 5″ or 3″ X 6″ of what gauge? Your help will be appreciated.

2×4 rectangle tubing with 3/16 wall will that be good for a boat trailer. Boa is 19 ft with about 2500 lbs

There are a lot of variables that I don’t know about your project, so I can’t really say yes or no. However, that sounds like it’s in the right area. Don’t take chances, figure it out for real.

What program did you use for the above test?

It’s FEA – Finite Element Analysis – that gives the pretty pictures. This was done with SolidWorks Simulation, but you can make the same calculations pretty simply on paper or excel or with a calculator. The computer just spits out the pretty images.
