The Job Of A Car Trailer
Car hauler trailers, and equipment transport trailers are a little different animal from most other trailer styles. These are intended to carry vehicles - often heavy vehicles - with only a few points of contact on the trailer (where the wheels touch). That means a car hauler must be strong in ways that other trailers are not.
Most trailers carry a dispersed load - meaning the load is spread out over the trailer deck. Not so when hauling Cars or Equipment. These trailers carry the heavy loads with only a few points of contact - yes, like the 4 points where 4 wheels contact the trailer top. In addition, the load at these points is often increased by strapping the vehicle tight to the trailer.
Another way this difference appears: When a vehicle is loaded onto the trailer, it comes on at the end, then rolls forward - again, with only a few points of contact. That means the trailer must be strong all the way along to support the rolling load – from the front, to the back, because the first load contact is at the end of the frame.
In engineering terms, this is "point loading", so the trailer must be strong where the contact happens. Such is the life of a Car Hauler trailer and an Equipment Trailer.
Strength In The Car Hauler Where It Counts
Like all our plans, we do the homework for these car trailer plans. Read this article about research for car hauler frame design. Solid engineering is the foundation in all our trailer plans, including for YOUR new car hauler! - We do it so you can build with confidence.
Plans are available for the classic low deck car hauler style, as well as plans which include drive-over fenders. We also have Gravity Tilt trailer plans for added function – and for those of you wanting a little more challenge in your trailer building project.
All the trailer plans include many options like various tie-down points, winch locations, and more - which you can build (or not) as you see fit. We encourage customizing with options so the final trailer is perfect for you.
Other options like Ramps, decking styles, a Winch or not, and many more (where applicable) – are in the plans so you can choose. So many great choices, so you can build it the way you want it. See the individual plan listings for more information.
When you are ready to build, we have the Car Hauler and Equipment Transport trailer plans to do the job. See the list of trailers above. Select your plans, then download them today, right after purchase. You can get started on your project in only a few minutes.
