Build a small, tough, lifted, off road capable Jeep trailer with these plans.  This is a tough little trailer with extra ground clearance for carrying your gear on those out and yonder adventures.  It’s Jeep size (or OHV or side-by-side size) with several design options that allow you to customize the trailer for your needs.  And, we encourage you to make your own enhancements so it’s perfect for YOUR travels!!

Make It Your Off Road Jeep Trailer

Attach the accessories you need — things like fuel tanks, a water tank, shovels, jacks — maybe even solar panels and a water heater for some added comfort !!  Fill it with Camping Gear, adventure equipment, or whatever you need.  Since it’s your adventure, put on tent top for camping off the ground too, if you want.  Make it your personal expedition trailer.

We provide the base, then you make it great.  These plans are strong, so feel free to widen it a little, or to add a little length.  Use these customizing rules as a guide.  Use a heavier axle, then make it a little longer, for much bigger wheels and tires.  (Does not change the capacity), but it works if you want big tires.  This trailer design is tough to handle your adventures, so throw in your gear and go.

4′ x 6′ – DIY Off Road Trailer Plans

• Single axle, leaf spring design with higher clearance “lift” options.
• 4′ x 6′ nominal bed size. (Actual bed is slightly bigger.)  And, we know one size does not fit all, so customize it!  You can modify the bed length or width a little if you want.  Just follow these guidelines.
• 2000 lb. total trailer capacity.
• Heavy duty design to follow your tow vehicle almost anywhere.
• Made of steel.  Requires welding and fabricating for the most robust action.
• Options in the plans for sides and/or a top.
• Optional removable ramp plans also included.
• Trailer frame is fully engineered to perform.
• Trailer weight will vary depending on design options, but will range from 400 lbs (minimal flat bed w/o deck) on up.
• Plans come with complete drawings and instructions.
• Plans include lists of components and materials along with possible sources to get the parts you need.

More About The Design Features

These plans are for a smallish, higher clearance DIY off road trailer.  Build it to hitch your 4×4 and head to the hills.  A Jeep Trailer?  Yes.  Though really anyone, everywhere 4×4 trailer.

Depending on your needs, this size can be just right for packing a few extra things to make the trip a little more comfortable — and stylish.  Customize for the look like you want, while you customize the function for the gear you need.  This is the launch pad, so add box, a solar panel, a rack, a rooftop tent, or a topper.

• Trailer bed size is 4′ 4″ wide by 6′ 3″. long so it will actually fit 4′ wide cargo.  (Not chincy on size like many competitors.)
• Overall length including the tongue is ~127 inches, though may be a little different with your options.
• While Trailer bed height as shown is 26.5″, actual height will depend on the options you choose.  Lift it to match your 4×4 tow vehicle if you want.  Also, bigger tires are an option — for looks and for function.
• Ground clearance as shown is 14″ (axle) and 18″ (central).  Actual clearance will depend on options, like wheel and tire size.
• Max capacity is 2000 lbs.* including the trailer.
