Description

One of our most popular trailers sizes.  This 5′ x 8′ – 3500# utility trailer has a Torsion Axle, yet it is just as tough and durable as it’s 5′ x 8′ Leaf Spring brother.  Functions and options are similar, as is the strength.  The size is popular because for many people it’s the perfect size.  These plans are designed with full Engineering for an excellent trailer.

Options on 5' x 10' - 3500# Utility Trailer PlansPlans have easy to follow, illustrated step by step instructions, with a list of materials and needed components.  Then, there are options so you can build it the way you want it.  We always recommend building and customizing to meet your needs.

These plans give you the basics, then you add the options to meet your needs.  Images on this page, and in the accordions show many possible options, but not all.  Decking options, like planks or plywood, and even options in how to fasten it down.  Several sides options are also given, from the low rail sides that are very popular, to tall solid sides.

It’s all up to you.  Choose from the options in the plans, then add some of your own.

We have alternate sizes — like 4×8 or 5×10 — if that works better.
If you prefer the leaf spring suspension on this 5×8, we have plans for that too.

Please see the images for several possible options in the plans.  Or, add your own!  We say build it the way you want it and make the trailer perfect for you.  A top, sides or tailgate — maybe a ramp, a tongue mounted toolbox, tie-down bars, or something unique.  Use these plans as a base, then customize it perfect.

Options with 5' x 8' - 3500# Torsion Axle Trailer Plans
Since there are many options, you can build the trailer the way you want it.  This is one set of options with the 5′ x 8′ – 3500# Utility Trailer Plans.

5′ x 8′ – 3500# Torsion Axle Trailer Technical Information:

  • True trailer bed size is 5 ft. 2″ wide by 8 ft. 3″ long — for a full usable 5′ x 8′ deck size, even with added sides.  We think the width of the cargo is a better measure than the actual width of the trailer.
  • Overall length — including the tongue — is ~147 inches.  (Can vary with options.)
  • Trailer bed height depends on design options including the torsion arm start angle.  It can range from 16 inches up.  (Bed height in these images is 20″.)
  • Make even more ground clearance using spacer blocks between the frame and the axle.
  • Max capacity (depending on options) is 5′ x 8′ – 3500# * including the trailer weight.
  • True Torsion Axle Utility Trailer Design — Engineered for long life — even when fully loading the torsion axle.
  • While the plans show the build steps, there is always more to learn. Check out the trailer and construction tips to get your trailer built.
