Description

When you need a Heavy Duty Equipment Hauling Trailer, this is a good place to start.  Plans start with full engineering to make this trailer perform.  I-Beam construction gives strength while keeping the trailer deck low.  (I-Beams provide maximum strength for the weight.)

A ton of study went into this and our other Equipment Trailer designs before even starting the drawings.  Then all the engineering to make sure the design will do the job.  We want your equipment to travel safe.  For more about the design, see this article about the trailer design.

What Is In The Equipment Trailer Plans?

It is not just the strength and stability we engineer into the plans.  There are a bunch of useful options and variations we provide so you can choose, and build the trailer you really want.  Things like slide out ramps that store under the deck, removable fenders, several deck styles, and a bunch of options for tie-down points.  Add a winch – removable or permanent, options for jacks, a toolbox, and more.

The plans also include the option to build for a 14,000 lbs. or 16,000 lbs. total trailer capacity.  Some material changes are required for the higher capacity, but all the necessary differences are are in the plans.  If you want to build a 20′ long, fixed deck, equipment transport trailer, start with these plans.  They are designed to build with full shop drawings and step by step instructions.  Plans also include a section of ‘Engineering Considerations’ to help make decisions if you want to make some minor changes.

At Mechanical Elements we do the engineering, and show the options, so you can build the trailer you need.  See the images above, then read the specifications in the tabs below for more info about the many features.  Good luck with your project.

More About The Design Features

More About The Design Features

At this capacity, most people will be hauling equipment of some type, but what will you haul?  Maybe a lot of different things – which is why we provide so many options.  Make the trailer to meet your needs.

We think customizing for the perfect trailer is the way to go.  Use the options within, or add your own.

Equipment Transport Trailer

Equipment Transport / Car Hauler Trailer Plans

  • * The trailers of this design has an actual deck width of 6 feet 10 inches, and length of 20 feet 3.5 inches.
  • Overall length including the tongue is 25 feet, 5 inches.
  • Trailer deck height depends on choices when building, but will range from 22″ up. (Bed height shown is ~23″ using axles with a 4″ drop.)
  • Max trailer capacity is an option.  Choose to build it for 14,0000 lbs capacity, or at 16,000 lbs  –  (combined tandem axle rating)* which includes the trailer and everything on it.
  • Trailer weight depends on options you choose.  The 14K base trailer is ~2200+ lbs.  Add a wood deck, ramps, tie-downs and some typical options, then the trailer will likely weigh around 3000 lbs.  The options you choose may add more or less weight.
  • Lots of options are in the plans.  Things like Decking choices, Tie-down points, Ramps (with options for length and strength), a mounted toolbox, a winch, jacks, removable fenders, front rail, etc. are there for optional functionality.  Some options are mutually exclusive.  Not all options are in the pictures here.
