Description

Description

The 6′ 10″ width (frame between the wheels) is basically the widest you can tow without permits.  This trailer maximizes the space available at full width.  Then, the 12′ length is great for getting the jobs done.  It’s a great trailer for business, landscaping projects, carrying toys (like ATV’s, UTV’s, Side-by-Side’s, etc..), . . . you name it.  Lots of deck surface area to work with.

Build the trailer you want in the size that makes most sense to you.  Most of all, build it to last!  You can be confident with plans from Mechanical Elements.  Like all our plans, these include the full array of engineering.  We won’t sell anything less.

Also, like all our trailers plans, these include a lot of options so you can make the trailer perfect.  Choose the ones you like – sides (of various styles), ramps, tailgate, or other options.  There are component options too.  And, a lot of functional extras like deck materials to choose, and various tie-down options.  It’s your trailer, so we provide the fully engineered base, and give ideas, then you build the trailer you need.

These plans for a 6′ 10″ width x 12′ length, single axle, utility trailer are 3500 lbs capacity.  The base design is for leaf springs, yet, if you prefer, we also have a Torsion Axle Conversion for it.  See below.

We have alternate sizes — like a 6×12 — if that works better.

Open “Alternate Sizes & Conversions” below to make this a Tilt Top Trailer.
For a Torsion Axle, we have a conversion for that too.

More About The Design Features

More About The Design Features

This trailer is very similar to our 6′ x 12′ trailer, except it is the full legal width at 102″ wide when you include the wheels and tires.  That extra width can come in very handy for the right situations.

Like all our trailers, this one includes full engineering for the many details that are not immediately evident.  Here are some of those details.  This is a Synthesis design made for maximum usability because we want your trailer to be a success for a long time into the future.

Plans include a lot of options.  See all the images.  There are various options, so choose the ones you like, and disregard the rest.  The images below show options for the tailgate or ramp system.  It’s all up to you.
Tailgate Options with the 6x12 Utility Trailer

6’10” x 12′ Utility Trailer Plans Details

  • Bed size is a full 6′ 10″ wide, by 12′ 3.5″ long.
  • Bed height ranges from 16″ up, depending on options you choose.  (Bed height shown is ~19″ with a drop axle.)
  • Axle capacity is 3500 lbs.*  This is the total load capacity which includes the weight of trailer and options.
  • Typical dry weight is 840+ lbs for the simple flatbed version.  However, adding options like sides or tailgate or toolbox will make it heavier.
  • There are many options in the plans for various functions.  Some options are mutually exclusive, but not all options are in these pictures.  See the animated image for some of the ideas.
  • These 6×12 utility trailer plans also include customization ideas for special uses – from ATV & motorcycles, to trash or furniture or landscape needs.
  • All the options are customizable.  We think you should make the trailer perfect for you.
