Description

Description

As a fantastic accessory for any small gantry crane, the “Winching pole” is a great way to lift a load without getting tangled in chain, ropes or cables.  The manual hoist winch is designed to balance away from your work, yet be at your working height, and pivot to where you need it.  It also pivots out of the way so you can work.

Uses a simple mechanical hand winch — which is so much easier than pulling a bunch of chain, or wrestling with a come-a-long to hoist something.

Advantages:
  1. Requires less headspace than a come-a-long, a chain fall, or an electric winch.
  2. No chain or cable or other things in the way on your work.
  3. Operation at your hand height, no reason to climb up, like for a come-a-long.
  4. More controlled operation with the hand winch than many other hoist methods.
  5. Faster than a come-a-long, and slower than an electric winch.
  6. More expensive than a come-a-long, yet cheaper and far more flexible and portable than an electric winch.
  7. Very portable, and does not require batteries.  Ideal for a hoist, a gantry crane, or mechanical winch.
  8. Add as much or as little cable as you need for your lifting chores.
  9. Double the capacity by using a pulley at the hook end.
  10. Parts to build it are easily available through many sources like Grainger and others.

Although the “Winching Pole” is primarily an accessory for lifting with a crane, this mechanical hoist has many uses.  For instance, this pole is a much easier way to do some of the things a come-a-long does.  We have used it as a vehicle rescue winch, a log puller, and to remove small trees and bushes.  Sure, it’s a little bigger than a come-a-long, and it’s heavier, but it’s often more convenient and has a much longer reach.

This “Winching Pole” works with all our gantry cranes.  Just make the pole length meet your need with the crane height.

More About The Design Features

More About The Design Features

These are the perfect crane &/or engine hoist accessories.  The “Winching Pole”, as we like to call it, is a mechanical hoist winch that makes the load easy to lift while staying out of the way.  The load leveler is even simpler.  These are the perfect accessories to go with our Mobile Overhead Crane or any other brand gantry crane for that matter.

Hoist Winch Pole PlansThe “Winching Pole” is a hand crank winch devise engineered to balance the handle and crank away from your work and to stay out of the way.  It also reduces the head height required by other devises like chain falls or “come-a-longs” so you have more space for lifting and working under the crane.  Most of all, there are no chains or cables to drop down and get in the way!

Of course, we show this tool with a gantry crane, but it has many other uses.  We have used it as a vehicle rescue winch, a log puller, a construction force multiplier, and to remove small trees and bushes.  Add a long cable and it becomes a convenient mechanical winch.  Add a snatch block to change direction, or multiply the forces.  Sure, it’s a little bigger than a come-a-long, and it’s heavier, but it’s often more convenient to use and has a much longer reach.

The load leveler is a quick and easy way to level a load.  It’s a really simple design to build in an hour or so, and cost a fraction of those commercially available.  It’s not as easy to adjust as some, but very simple and functional.  These two accessories make lifting tasks much easier.  Build both today.

– Construction requires steel cutting and drilling (& optionally, welding).
– Load Capacity is entirely dependent on the options and purchase components.*

Plans include both the Winching Pole and the Load Leveler together with easy to follow, fully illustrated instructions.  . . .  More on What is in the Plans . . .  These are the perfect accessories to go with our  Mobile Overhead Crane and our Perfect Garage Size Crane.
