Car Hauler Trailer Plans include Drive-Over Fenders – 18.5 ft length.  While this trailer is similar to others here, this one is for wide stance vehicles – though it has the same length, strength, and capacity as our other 12,000 lb Car Haulers.  The drive-over fenders feature made for wide vehicles.  Yes, the deck a full 8.5 feet wide, with permanent, strong fenders for wide stance vehicles to drive up and over.

This trailer has a robust I-Beam design for great frame strength while keeping the deck height low.  The 10,400 lbs option (with smaller tires) will reduce deck height a little more.

Please Note:  The fender design of this trailer is for straight axles, for better ground clearance.  Please see the Drop Axle version for the lowest practical deck height with drive-over fenders – using 4″ drop axles.

Trailer Plans With Drive-Over Fenders

The Trailer design is to carry wide stance vehicles like built jeeps, 4×4’s, dually trucks, wide tractors, and more.  These drive-over fender trailer plans include the full engineering so we know the trailer will perform.  The fenders are partly from sheet steel with tabs and slots making them easy to assemble.  All the cutout files are in the plans so you can get the pieces cut via waterjet, laser, or plasma cutting CNC.  That makes it easy to build, and the result is strong.

8’6″ x 18.5′ – Straight Axle – Equipment Transport / Car Hauler Plans

• Option for 12,000 lbs. Capacity, or 10,400 lbs. Capacity.
• 8’6″ x 18.5′ nominal deck size.  (Actual size is a little longer.)  Width includes the Drive-Over Fenders.
• * A car trailer from these plans has a bed width of 8′ 6′ and bed length of 18′ 7″.
• Overall length including the tongue is around 24 feet.
• Deck height depends on your choices:  Around 27″ for the 12,000 lb. option, or 25″ for the 10,400 lb. option.  Many things will affect the deck height.
• This trailer design has straight axles, for more ground clearance.  The height of the fenders from the ground is the same as our Drop Axle design, but the deck is higher, and therefore the height of the fenders above the deck is less.  Both trailers have different benefits.
• Total Max capacity depends on the options you choose.  The plans have an option for 10,400 lbs, and another option for 12,000 lbs.  These numbers include the weight of both the trailer and the payload.
• Trailer weight depends on many design choices.  The 12K base trailer is ~2600+ lbs without the deck.  Tie-Down options, Decking choices, Toolbox, Winch, Battery, Ramps, Jack Styles, etc. all add to the weight.  The 10K version is just a little lighter.
• Tandem axles have leaf springs – use double eye springs, or slipper style – your choice.  This trailer is NOT designed for Torsion axles, or Coil springs.
• I-Beam construction is compact, and strong.  Strength is in the I-Beams, which are stronger than C-Channel of a similar size.  This trailer is designed strong for a long life, trouble-free.
• Frame construction is welded steel, with I-Beams, Angle, Tube, Flat and C-Channel.  We use the right material for desired function.  And, plans are Fully Engineered.
• Drive-Over Fenders in the trailer plans are made strong and easy to build with a technique of tabs and slots.  All are welded to make the fenders really strong.

  Several Deck styles are included in the plans for you to choose.  (See the image.)  Perhaps a solid Plywood deck, a wood plank surface, or a split deck.  Or you can choose a Full Metal Deck.

• Instructions in the plans explain how get the fender and deck parts made quick and accurate.  CAD files to get the parts cut-out are all included.
• This design also includes the option for hidden Ramps.  Choose to hide them with a slide to under the trailer, or make them longer then, store them in another location.
• Many options are given for tie-down anchor points.  Use one style or several to meet your needs.
• Plans include options for a front rail, either short or tall, with options for material.
• A winch option is also in the plans.  Make it fixed, or removable with a pin.
• Choose a tongue mount toolbox, or a tongue tray, or neither.
• There are options for the tongue jack, as well as options for rear supports.
• Plans include a full set of Drawings (45 pages) plus the Instructions Document (21 pages).  It has a materials list that includes both raw materials and components to purchase.

More About The Design Features

The Drive-Over fenders in these trailer plans are one focus, but it is also a great multi-purpose trailer.  Use the 12K capacity to haul equipment – like skid loaders, tractors, mini-excavators, and lifts.  Or use the Drive-Over fenders to take your built 4×4 or dually truck.  Afterall, that is why we want to build it anyway.

These plans start with the same solid I-Beam base frame as our other 12K Car Hauler.  Also, most of the same trailer options to make it the way you want.  Use the options in the plans, or add your own customizing.  The goal is to build an awesome trailer that will serve your needs.
